What is Fest~ i Cult 2.2 ? This film festival is just a special selection of FEST~ i KULT 2 (AFSGD Ankara Intercultural Amateur Film festival 2006). This event is a fundraiser for AFS-Homer student exchange program. Fest~ i Kult 2 happened in Ankara- TURKEY on November 24-30, 2006. Fest~ i Kult is prepared by AFSGD (AFS Volunteers Association), you can have more information about AFS from http://www.afs.org/, AFSGD from here. Fest~ i Cult 2.2 will be at The Islands and Oceans Visitor Center Auditorium in Homer, ALASKA - U.S.A..
Nobody would ever name whoever is close to their lifestyle as "right" or "good" and the ones who are minorities to them as "wrong" or "bad" if only different cultural back grounded people knew and understood each other. They would only see that there are no such words as right or wrong but there is only different. We believe that; trying to understand the differences and volunteer for doing something about it is the key to resolve the problems we face everyday. AFS Volunteers Association which is a nongovernmental organization is aimed to maintain the ones listed above. To be able to understand other cultures we need to live with them. Since we do not have the opportunity to live in every culture, we choose to organize a film festival. We believe that films can reflect culture, and if we know and try to understand other cultures, the world will be a better place to live. Festival team started to organize that festival with these ideas since 2005. Now we had a chance to screen film in Alaska, far far away from TURKEY, where we started. With these steps out of the Turkey, we believe we are helping the "intercultural understanding" more around the world. Helping to have a PEACEFUL WORLD.
